Do you want to apply a car coating for your paint, wheels or windows? Then you're with Custom Car Care at the right address. We have different coatings available, ranging from the standard ceramic coating for your paint to long-lasting coatings for your windows for better visibility in the rain. These are the most well-known coatings for your paint, but there are still different types. Nowadays you also have a car coating based on polysiloxane polymers which is extremely user-friendly for the do-it-yourself detailer and also a graphene coating that is very strong and durable and is also dust repellent.
Installing or having a car coating installed has recently become very popular due to the strong water-repellent properties and the durability that they have. It provides a tight warm shine and reflection so that your car will shine even more than before. In addition, it is also a protective layer with which you can protect your paint against minor wax scratches and strong chemicals that would otherwise damage the paint. As a result, the ease of use quickly became clear, so that after applying a car coating you quickly had much less cleaning work and a superior shine. The ideal product for long-term protection for your car.
You can choose from 3 different types of coatings, namely the popular ceramic coating that has ceramic SiO2 components. These often range for end users between 12 months and 5 years of durability. It gives extra shine and reflection to the paint and provides protection against UV rays, wax scratches, chemicals, contamination such as iron particles and tar, and so on. In addition, the surface is also strongly water and dirt repellent, so that your car will stay clean longer and will also be easier to clean. Typically, you will wash a car with a well-functioning ceramic coating 60% faster than a normal car. In addition, you will also have to wash the car less quickly because the car stays clean longer because the dirt cannot adhere to the treated surfaces. It also dries very quickly as water cannot remain on the paint.
The ceramic coatings have different levels of durability and ease of use depending on the durability. In general, the rule counts: the easier it is to apply and the more forgiving the ceramic coating is in wiping, the less durable they are. Some coatings only need 1 coat, others need 2 or more coats. This changes the performance and durability of the ceramic coating.
you also have polysiloxane coatings. These are extremely user-friendly coatings made on the basis of polymers. Because they are so user-friendly, you can of course guess that they are also less durable. Often these have a durability of 6 to 18 months. They are easy to apply, cheaper, easier to take off and last longer when opened. This makes them attractive for the novice detailer or as a solution for a budget project. Ceramic coatings and graphene coatings have solvents in their formula that make the coating spreadable. When it dries they get super hard so if you made a mistake you don't have much choice but sand of polishing† The silicone coatings are much more forgiving as they can be wiped off even after hours or days without the need for sanding or polishing.
Despite the fact that they are based on polymers, it is also a very water and dirt-repellent coating. It gives extra shine and reflection, although these do not belong to the same category as traditional ceramic coatings. It's still a significant improvement over no protection. In addition, it is also more durable than a traditional wax, making this an easy solution for someone who wants the performance of a wax but doesn't feel like re-waxing their car every 3 weeks.
There are also graphene coatings. This is the latest revolution in the car detailing industry. This consists of a single layer of carbon particles made of graphene, which is the hardest material known in the world. Although this technology is being further developed every day, impressive products have already come onto the market that consist either entirely of graphene or a mixture of ceramic and graphene. Graphene has the advantage that it is more durable than the ceramic coatings. Since it is still a newly developed technology, it is not yet easy to obtain, especially for end users. This is because the application of these coatings is not self-evident. It also has the advantage that it dissipates heat very well and is also dust repellent. You can compare the performance in terms of gloss, reflection and water and dirt-repellent properties with a ceramic coating. Durability often varies from 3 to 7 years.
There are also special coatings for rims, which are often based on SiO2 or Graphene. This is because both are very durable and can withstand heat well. A traditional wax or polymer-based coating could not last for several weeks.
You can also opt for a glass coating. These coatings are specially made for your glass and windows. They take care of the proper drainage of water and rain that get on the windows. This improves visibility while driving, especially in a rain shower. You will notice that you hardly need your windshield wipers anymore and that your windshield wipers will also glide more smoothly over the windows. This also ensures that you are less windshield washer fluid and that your wipers will last longer. You can also remove insects and dirt from your windows much faster and easier. You can also apply a traditional ceramic coating to your windows, but these generally last less than specialized glass coatings on windows.
The application of a car coating generally always proceeds the same. Whether you apply a coating to your paint, glass or wheels and whether it is made of polymers, SiO2 or graphene. It is always of great importance that the surface is as clean as possible and that all contamination is removed. The surface should also always be degreased with a surface degreaser so that the coating can adhere well to the surface. You will then apply the car coating with a small microfibre applicator and spread it in overlapping strokes on a small area, making sure you have an even coating all over. Then you remove the excess product with a microfibre cloth† Typically, a coating should always cure for 12 to 24 hours before it can get wet. They usually continue to harden over the next 7 to 14 days but may already get wet. As long as they don't come into contact with chemicals. That is why you are always asked not to wash the car for the first 2 weeks.
You will also often see that guarantees are given on the durability of the coatings. These should always be taken with a grain of salt. The durability stated by the manufacturer is therefore almost always in theory. In perfect conditions where the coating hardly comes into contact with sunlight, dirt, water, etc. and is not washed and gets a protective layer every 4 weeks from a spray coating† In reality this is almost never the case.
When a durability of 7 years is mentioned, this is often in reality only 4 years of effective protection, after which often after 3 years the water and dirt-repellent properties start to diminish. Usually you can assume that the lower the durability is indicated for coatings, the fairer and more realistic they are. We have already applied coatings that should have a durability of 1 year and that still have super performance after 14 months. And we have also had coatings where the customer has been given a 7 to 10 year warranty by another detailer and there was no visible sign of it 3 months after application.
Although a coating is very durable, it also works best when it is properly maintained. It is strongly not recommended to go to a car wash, they can completely destroy the coating after a few turns. Washing with a pH neutral car shampoo and a microfibre wash glove always remains the best option. The pores of the coating can also become clogged, so that the protection will still be present, but the water and dirt-repellent properties will no longer be visible. In that case, a good wash and the use of a iron particles remover recommended to remove contamination from the pores. Finally, after every 3 to 5 washes, depending on how much you wash your car, it is best to apply a protective layer with a spray coating. This coating will, as it were, sacrifice itself by absorbing the blows of dirt, water, contamination, etc., so that the coating itself has less to endure.
You will also notice that the prices advertised for installing a car coating vary widely. This is because some advertise a ceramic coating but only put in a spray coating that will only last a few months. While others apply a professional 2 or more layers of coating as standard that can easily last 5 years. A spray coating can therefore not be compared with a real coating as offered here.
If you are interested in a car coating but do not know which is the best option for you, you can always contact us. We are happy to advise you which ceramic coating or other car coating suits you best!
