Why use Gtechniq EXO v5 Ultra Durable Hydrophobic Coating?

The latest generation of water and dirt repellent coating from Gtechniq is the EXO v5. This coating leverages decades of coatings experience to create the best hydrophobic coating on the market. EXO v5 makes the paint extremely smooth, water and dirt resistant and protects the paint against washing scratches and chemicals.

Because EXO v5 is so water and dirt repellent, dirt adheres much more difficult to the surface, so that your car will stay clean longer. In addition, the dirt will also be much easier to remove during a wash as it will come off much more easily. Because water cannot remain on the paint, you can also dry your car in record time without leaving water spots. The chemical resistance of EXO v5 ensures that you can also treat your car with non-pH neutral agents without the protection completely disappearing. Because EXO v5 is such a hard coating and washing and drying is so much easier, the chance of washing scratches is limited to a minimum!

User manual

The complete process to apply the Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light and Gtechniq EXO v5 coating:

1. Preparation

• The process of applying the 2 coatings can take 4 to 5 hours if you are not experienced. Make sure that you can work uninterrupted during this period. The washing and polishing of the paint is not included in this time frame.
• Make sure that your vehicle is not in direct sunlight, but is warmer than 5°C but colder than 25°C. Ensure the carriage is completely dry and remains dry for at least 12 hours after application and is not exposed to contamination.
• Make sure you also have Gtechniq Panel Wipe, at least 16 microfibre cloths without rim and with a weight of at least 400GSM and that you have around 8 applicators at your disposal. Gloves are also recommended.
• Store the product in a dry, cool place.
• Use within 3 months of opening.

2. Paint preparation

• Wash and decontaminate your paint thoroughly before applying coatings with a good shampoo, iron remover en tar remover.
• If necessary or desired polish the lacquer, with machine or by hand, and remove defects. Any defects present in the paint before applying CSL and EXO v5 will remain in the paint for the duration of the coating!
• Sprays Gtechniq Panel Wipe on a microfibre cloth and wipe each panel in small sections.

3. Apply Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light

• Soak the application pad with 3 full bars of CSL from the pipette and work the liquid into the pad to get even saturation.
• Place the lid back on the bottle and set it aside. Do not hold the bottle in your hand as this promotes premature curing.
• Apply in overlapping movements with the AP2 Ultra Soft Foam Filled Applicator to an area of ​​approximately 60 by 60 cm.
• Immediately remove residue with a microfiber cloth. You may need to wipe the same area several times with a microfiber cloth, but avoid using too much force.
• We recommend using 2 cloths at the same time. Make sure to rotate the cloths during residue removal to prevent CSL from curing in the cloth. Also regularly replace the cloths with new cloths.
• Inspect the surface for residue with a bright light source.
• Remove remnants of Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light with a microfibre cloth if you can still see it anywhere. If you cannot get it away with a microfibre cloth, you can try to locally reapply the area with Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light and remove it immediately after application with a microfibre cloth. If you still cannot remove the cured remnants, you are forced to polish the entire panel again and reapply the coating to the entire panel.
• Once you are done, place your microfiber cloths in water, was and dry them as soon as possible. However, we recommend that you simply throw away your microfiber cloths with which you have removed the coating to prevent possible damage to the paint the next time you use the microfiber cloths.
• Wait at least 1 hour after applying Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light CSL before applying Gtechniq EXO v5. In many cases you have already been working with the Gtechniq CSL for 1 hour, so you can start applying Gtechniq EXO on the same panel where you started with Gtechniq CSL.

4. Application of Gtechniq EXO v5 Coating

• Shake the bottle of EXOv4 well and wear gloves.
• Prime the AP2 Ultra Soft Foam Filled Applicator evenly with a good amount of product so that the pad is saturated.
• Place the lid back on the bottle and set it aside. Do not hold the bottle in your hand as this promotes premature curing.
• Apply in overlapping strokes to an area of ​​approximately 60 by 60 cm.
• Remove the residue after 1 to 2 minutes with a microfiber cloth. You may need to wipe the same area several times with a microfiber cloth, but avoid using too much force.
• We recommend using 2 cloths at a time. Ensure cloths are rotated during residue removal to prevent EXO v5 from curing in the cloth.
• Inspect the surface for residue with a bright light source.
• Remove remnants of Gtechniq EXO v5 with a microfiber cloth if you still see it anywhere. If you cannot remove it with a microfiber cloth, you can try to locally re-apply EXO v5 to the area and remove it immediately after application with a microfiber cloth. If you still cannot remove the cured residue, you will have to re-polish the entire panel and re-apply both coatings to the entire panel.
• Once you're done, soak your microfiber cloths in water, wash and dry them as soon as possible. However, we recommend that you simply throw away your microfibre cloths with which you have removed the coating to prevent possible damage to the paint the next time you use the microfibre cloths.

5. Aftercare of the coating

• After applying Gtechniq EXO v5, keep the car away from water and dirt for 12 hours. In addition, the car must also remain at temperatures of 5 °C and 25 °C to ensure proper drying and curing of the coating.
• The curing of the coating can be accelerated with a specialized infrared dryer for the paint. This may also enhance the hydrophobic properties of the coating. 
• After the coating has dried, we do not recommend washing the car for the first week or using other chemicals on the car. If the car becomes dirty between the first 24 hours and the following 6 days, you can rinse it with water.
• For a good durability of the coating, we recommend that you maintain the coating every 2 months Gtechniq C2 Ceramic Sealant.
