Leather Cleaner

If you want to clean the leather of your car, we always recommend a specialized leather cleaner. Leather can be very sensitive and very durable at the same time. It mainly depends on what kind of leather you have in your car. Not every leather interior is the same.

The most common type of leather is pigmented leather. This leather has a colored varnish coating over the leather which is extremely durable. This leather has the least natural look, feel and smell. It cannot be treated with a leather conditioner because the conditioner cannot penetrate the coating into the leather itself. You do not need a mild cleaner to clean this leather. Any leather cleaner is suitable for cleaning this type of leather. It is often used on cheaper cars that offer leather interiors such as Volkswagen, Renault, Peugeot, and so on.

The second most common type of leather is semi-pigmented aniline leather. This is quality leather that only has a limited and thinner pigmented coating that does not affect the natural appearance of leather. In the first years you will not necessarily have to treat this leather with a leather conditioner. Applying a leather conditioner never hurts. However, this will only have real effect after a few years because the protective coating of this leather becomes smaller over the years, so that the leather conditioner can penetrate into the pores of the leather. We therefore recommend a slightly more sensitive leather cleaner if the leather is more durable. This type of leather is often used in the upper class such as BMW, AUDI, Mercedes, Lexus, and so on.

Finally, there is the premium leather that is used in the most luxurious cars such as BMW limousines, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin, and so on. It is Aniline leather, you may have heard the name Nappa leather before. This is the most natural and quality leather used in cars. It is also the most fragile leather of all kinds. It is best to use the softest leather cleaners for this and then treat the leather with a leather conditioner or leather coating to protect it.

Depending on the type of leather you have, we do not recommend using general interior all-purpose cleaners. These concentrated products are just general purpose cleaners that are not specifically formulated to clean leather. You can sometimes cause damage to sensitive leather. You can use a leather cleaner for all types of leather. Whether it is the most durable leather or the most sensitive. You can generally do almost nothing wrong with a leather cleaner. If you still want more cleaning power, you can always clean your leather with a brush. This will loosen the dirt and pull it to the surface, so you can easily remove it with a microfiber cloth.
